The Art Academy Fredericksburg Texas is on a hill overlooking the 25 acre Barons Creekside park of Pecan and Live Oak trees, the creek running through on its way to the Perdenales river. Founded in the 1850's by German settlers, Fredericksburg has retained its distinctly European character. There are wide tree lined streets, native limestone houses and store fronts, decorative architectural fachtwerk framing shady porches. Fredericksburg is a cultural, artistic and historic tourist destination surrounded by the rugged Hill Country landscape. This is a landscape of high clouds and blue sky, famous for spring Bluebonnets, wildflowers and vineyards. The first settlers brought the tradition of viniculture to the rich red volcanic soil and bright sun of this part of south central Texas. Wineries are everywhere inviting wine tasting in old style antique stone recreations of the German originals.

Fredericksburg is the focus of regularly scheduled events year round, celebrating art, music, food and wine, often at the central Marktplazt. An arts center, Fredericksburg hosted the 2007 Oil Painters of America annual juried art show. The international art world of Marfa, Texas is five hours drive to the west with the spectacular wilderness of Big Bend National Park to its south on the Rio Grande river.

There is an airport outside of town where you can land, park your plane and walk to the hotel on the edge of the runway. Commercial flights are 65 miles to the south at San Antonio and 75 miles to the east at Austin. On the way, at Johnson City, is the LBJ National Park and the Sculpture Ranch of the Benini Foundation.
